His 1970 Tour du Hainaut champion’s jersey
Born on 11 October 1939 in Feluy, in Hainaut, Willy Monty was a Belgian cyclist who turned professional between 1963 and 1971. Before turning professional, he represented Belgium at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games in the team time trial.
A well-rounded and resilient rider, he won a stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré in 1964, followed by two stages of the Tour of Catalonia in 1965. He also distinguished himself in the major classics, notably finishing third in Liège–Bastogne–Liège and sixth in the Tour of Flanders in 1967.
Willy Monty competed in five Tours de France. His best result came in 1967, when he finished twelfth in the general classification after helping his team to victory in the team time trial. He also competed in two Vuelta a España races and supported Roger Pingeon during the latter’s victory in 1969.

Born on 11 October 1939 in Feluy, in Hainaut, Willy Monty represented Belgium at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome before turning professional in July 1963.
A well-rounded rider, equally at home in stage races and the classics, he won a stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré in 1964 and two stages of the Tour of Catalonia in 1965. His 1967 season was one of the highlights of his career: he finished third in Liège–Bastogne–Liège, sixth in the Tour of Flanders and twelfth in the Tour de France.
Willy Monty competed in five Tours de France and two Vuelta a España. In 1969, he was part of the Peugeot team that supported Roger Pingeon to overall victory in the Vuelta.
This long-sleeved jersey from the Pelforth–Sauvage–Lejeune team was worn by Willy Monty between 1963 and 1968.
Willy Monty wore the colours of this major French team for most of his professional career, from the summer of 1963 until the end of the 1968 season. His Faemino–Faema long-sleeved jersey worn in 1970
Willy Monty was a Belgian professional cyclist from 1963 to 1971. Prior to that, he competed in the team time trial at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
His list of achievements includes a stage win at the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré in 1964 and two stage wins at the Tour of Catalonia in 1965. An excellent classics rider, he finished third in Liège–Bastogne–Liège and sixth in the Tour of Flanders in 1967.
Monty competed in five Tours de France. He achieved his best overall classification in 1967 with a twelfth-place finish and also contributed to his team’s victory in the team time trial. Finally, he took part in two Vuelta a España races, including the 1969 edition won by his team leader Roger Pingeon.
This long-sleeved jersey from the “Faemino–Faema” team was worn by Willy Monty during the 1970 season.
A name patch bearing the name MONTY and the Belgian flag is sewn onto the chest. This personalisation is a particularly interesting feature, as it directly identifies the rider for whom the garment was intended.
