His polka-dot jersey as winner of the King of the Mountains classification at the 1984 Tour de France
Born in Glasgow on 13 September 1958, Robert Millar, now known as Philippa York, was one of the greatest climbers of the 1980s. His combative style and ability to sustain long efforts in the mountains enabled him to excel in the three Grand Tours.
During the 1984 Tour de France, Millar won the Pyrenean stage finishing at Guzet-Neige in a solo breakaway, finished fourth in the general classification and won the King of the Mountains classification with 284 points. This victory marked the first time a British rider had won a major classification at the Tour. (1984 Tour de France)
His career also included three stage wins at the Tour, a second place in the 1987 Giro d’Italia alongside the mountains classification, as well as two second places in the Vuelta a España. He remains a major figure in the history of British cycling.
This red polka-dot jersey was worn by Robert Millar (P.Y) during his victory in the King of the Mountains classification at the 1984 Tour de France.
Its relatively loose fit allowed the leader to slip it on quickly on the podium, over his racing kit. The visible signature on the upper part reinforces the personal link between the garment and the champion. This jersey brings together an exceptional climber, the first major British classification victory in the Tour, and one of cycling’s most recognisable symbols.

His green jersey as winner of the King of the Mountains classification at the 1987 Giro d’Italia
Robert Millar, now known as Philippa York, was one of the finest climbers of his generation. A professional from 1980 to 1995, Millar distinguished himself in the three Grand Tours through his endurance, lightness and attacking style.
After winning the King of the Mountains classification and finishing fourth in the 1984 Tour de France, Millar achieved another historic performance in the 1987 Giro d’Italia. Riding for Panasonic, the Scottish champion won the mountain stage finishing at Pila, claimed the King of the Mountains classification with 97 points and finished second in the general classification, 3 minutes and 40 seconds behind Stephen Roche. This second-place finish was, at the time, the best result ever achieved by a British rider in the Giro. It rounded off a list of achievements that also included two second-place finishes in the Vuelta a España and stage victories in each of the three Grand Tours.
This item is a green jersey worn by Robert Millar during his victory in the King of the Mountains classification at the 1987 Giro.
At that time, the King of the Mountains classification in the Giro d’Italia was symbolised by a green jersey, before the much later adoption of the blue jersey. A period photograph shows Millar wearing an identical jersey at the end of a stage. A handwritten signature visible on the chest further reinforces the personal connection between the champion and the item on display. This jersey brings together one of Britain’s greatest climbers, a historic podium finish at the Giro d’Italia and a victory in one of the Giro’s major classifications.

His "Rabobank" time trial jersey from 2011
Born on 26 November 1986 in Groningen, Bauke Mollema is one of the most consistent Dutch riders of his generation. An excellent climber and a solid all-rounder, he excels in both Grand Tours and hilly classics.
He turned professional with Rabobank in 2008 and came into his own in 2011. After finishing fifth in the Tour de Suisse, he wore the red leader’s jersey in the Vuelta a España and won the points classification in Madrid. Initially fourth in the general classification, he was reclassified third following the disqualification of Juan José Cobo.
His long career also includes a victory in the 2016 San Sebastián Classic, two stages of the Tour de France in 2017 and 2021, and, most notably, the 2019 Tour of Lombardy, which he won following a solo breakaway. Mollema has announced that the 2026 season will be the last of his professional career.
This time trial jersey was worn by Bauke Mollema during the 2011 season.
The name ‘Mollema’ is printed on the back, beneath the collar, confirming that the jersey was made to measure for the rider. A handwritten dedication and his signature also appear on the front. This jersey brings together the breakthrough season of a great Dutch rider, a major force in international cycling, and the aerodynamic evolution of competition clothing at the start of the 21st century.
On display in the Virtual Cycling Museum – Noël GREGOIRE Collections, this jersey serves as a memento of the 2011 season, during which Bauke Mollema established himself amongst the best riders in the Grand Tours and won the points classification at the Vuelta.
